Traditionally, deep pocket sheets are made with fabrics with a higher thread count to assure good texture and durability required for bed sheets that are meant for use with special mattresses thicker than standard designs like the pillowtop. Deep pocket sheets are just like fitted sheets except that, as the name suggests, they are designed with a deeper pocket at each corner of the sheet. Such increased depth allows the pockets to perfectly align with the corners of the mattress while wrapping tightly around the mattress’s sides and tucking under to keep the sheet in place.

Measuring how much space it will take for the sheet to allow its fitted pockets to tuck securely under the mattress’s corners determines whether you need deep pocket sheets for your mattress. Deep pocket fitted sheets usually have depth measurements ranging between 15 to 22 inches and a slight error in your measurements may drastically affect the fit of the bed sheet so be sure to make accurate measurements. Information such as thread count and dimensions are usually indicated right on the front label of most bed linen sets.

Just like other fitted sheets today, deep pocket sheets are also available in different fits and a wide range of sizes, from twin size to California king size. They also come in rich selection of designs, colours and fabrics in varying thread counts. Egyptian cotton, flannel and sateen are just some of the fabric choices you have.

Although thread count generally determines the quality and texture of a bed linen, people may have different perception of what feels comfortable to them. While some may find a cotton bed sheet with a thread count of 600 softer, others may prefer a 400 thread count Egyptian cotton bed sheet better. So choose a bed sheet with balanced consideration on thread count and type of fabric.

Although deep pocket bed sheets were once considered specialty items, many retail outlets and even discount stores offer them for sale at reasonable prices. Finding one that perfectly fits your mattress and suits your taste should be as easy as finding any other kind of bed linens.

Buying fitted sheets separately, also referred to as open stock, used to be simpler than it is now as most manufacturers and stores these days find it more practical to sell bed linens in sets. Fitted sheets sold in sets come with flat sheets and pillow cases which are also provided in different sizes. If you know your way around fitting and matching bed sheets with mattresses, buying individual bed sheets shouldn’t be an issue. However, if you lack experience in this area or simply don’t want to bother having to choose something that perfectly matches your bedroom design, buying a complete set is better recommended.

Fitted sheets are usually available around the following standard sizes:

Twin size: 39 in. x 75 in. (99 cm. x 190 cm.)
Extra long twin: 39 in. x 80 in. (99. x 203 cm.)
Full bed sheet: 54 in. x 75 in. (137 cm. x 190 cm.)

Depth dimensions are not included in the list above as the thickness of mattresses varies widely. A thick pillow top mattress for instance, only fits in deep pocket or wide flat sheets. So if you want to be certain that the fitted sheets you buy will fit your mattress, you have to find one that exactly matches the dimensions of your mattress.

Aside from the fit, the comfort level and quality of the fabric the fitted sheet is made of should also be given some thought. Some of the fabrics fitted sheets are usually made of are Egyptian cotton, combed cotton, silk, flannel and satin and which of these materials feel the most comfortable varies from person to person. The coarseness or fineness of the fitted sheet is somewhat determined by its fabric’s thread count. The higher the thread count, the better the quality of the fabric. A thread count of 300 or higher is considered good enough according to some standards.

You can shop for fitted sheets in local or online stores. Shopping for fitted sheets online however, allows you to have better flexibility with your schedule and is ideal if you are going to make purchases in bulks.

A person struggling with insomnia probably has a lot going on in his/her mind and having to worry about a scrunched up bed sheet makes things even more frustrating. While the use of fitted sheets on mattresses has little relevance over the issue, it will not hurt to take every possible measure to eliminate sources of discomfort during sleep such as a disorderly bed.

One obvious problem one might come across in putting fitted sheets on a mattress is the potential incompatibility between the size of the mattress and that of the fitted sheet. Normally, matching fitted sheets with mattresses poses no problem as long as both the mattress and the fitted sheet belong to the same size range. Take note of its measurements especially its depth as this is where matching fitted sheets with a mattress can be problematic. Once you are able to determine the dimensions of your mattress, you can simply check the label of each of the fitted sheets you’ll find in stores to see if any of these fits your mattress.

While the fit is a primary consideration in looking for fitted sheets for your mattress, you should also consider the quality of the fitted sheets. A good indicator of the quality and durability of the bed sheet is its thread count or the number of horizontal and vertical threads women together per square inch of fabric. A bed sheet with a thread count of 200 would mean that it is very affordable but the quality may be poor whereas if it has a thread count of 300 or more, it will certainly be durable and of finer quality yet more costly. Just remember that thread count is not as much an indicator of comfort as is the type of fabric the bed sheet is made of.

Fitted sheets are great for mattresses. They provide a comfortable surface ideal especially for those who have difficulty getting a good night’s sleep and they also protect the mattress from getting dirty too soon. While you can’t wash your mattress if it gets dirty, you can simply put a newly-washed fitted sheet on it so it stays fresh and clean to sleep on. Fitted sheets are available in various designs, sizes and fabrics. They can be purchased separately or as part of a set though buying fitted sheets individually is rather difficult nowadays as most manufacturers and stores prefer selling them in sets.

No matter your choice, it is important that you buy a new fitted sheet for your mattress if you’ve got only few or simply want to be certain that you won’t run out of those nice, comfy bed covers.

Before you purchase your extra deep fitted sheet make sure that you measure your mattress correctly. There are so many instances of people doing this incorrectly resulting in a higher than average returns percentage than many items in stores.

You need to know the depth of your mattress and usually it is measured in inches (but most stores tell you the size in centimetres also). While there isn’t a standard definition of an extra deep fitted sheet, I treat 10″ to 16″ as deep and more than 16″ extra deep.

Over time your mattress may become disfigure. It is important to round up any measurements to the nearest inch to ensure a comfortable fit.

If you need fitted sheets for deep mattresses how much would you be expect to pay? Well that depends of a couple of factors.

Firstly there is the size. The less common the size the more you would be expected to pay. Bedding for larger beds and mattresses tend to be least common and therefore more expensive.

You also have the quality, as 100% Egyptian cotton will be more expensive than polyester cotton. This is what you would expect but you need to weigh up the benefits of the texture against your skin, the durability and the price.

Fitted bed sheets is one area when you can treat yourself but not break the bank. Why not use it as an opportunity where you can have a bit of luxury?

Then you have where you buy it… buying from you local retailer or high street store is often going to be more expensive than buying online. Why not go to the store and feel the quality of the extra deep fitted sheets but then purchase them online? A lot of people feel guilty about this but in my opinion it is perfectly acceptable.

Be careful of the shipping and delivery prices. It is easy to be drawn in on cheap deals only to be stung on the delivery charge. Also, delivery will take time so if you need fitted sheets for deep mattress right now then it is best to hit the high street.

You will be able to find extra deep fitted sheets in almost any colour and pattern. Whether you want something colourful or plain dye you should always do your best to match the décor of your bedroom. You can also match your other pillowcases and bed linen.

I believe that they are the new generation of sheets and more mattresses now have a large depth. So why not go and treat yourself to your extra deep fitted sheets right now?

For those of you that did have a problem then you need to think about purchasing deep fitted sheets. In fact I would go as far as saying that deep fitted sheets are the only sheets you should buy.

Why is that? Well these days mattresses are getting bigger. They are doing so in a response to consumers wanting better quality mattresses. I am not saying that the thicker they are the higher quality they are but there does tend to be a correlation.

Do you think that will change? Will people want mattresses that aren’t as good for them and won’t last as long? No, neither do I and that is why deep fitted sheets are here to stay.

Now we have that sorted you would think that you could just go out and buy the latest sheets and be done with it wouldn’t you…Wrong! Even deep fitted sheets come in various sizes.

You have the conventional sizes of mattress like doubles or singles (if you had a single you would need a single fitted sheet). But then you have the depth or the thickness of the mattress to think about.

I would advise that you measure the size of the mattress before you go out and buy your deep fitted sheets. If you are in doubt go for the one that is slightly bigger. It is best to do that as you will be able to tuck it in rather than having the hassle of trying to squeeze the mattress in!
